Life Update: COVID-19, Back-to-School, Hurricane Isaias

Hey all.

I have been neglecting my blog lately but its been a struggle. 2020 has just not been fair. I wanted to give you guys a quick update on what’s been going on.

Earlier in the month of August, Connecticut was hit by Hurricane Isaias. It was a 15 minute storm that wiped out our power for three days. We had no water and lights. I sent the girls off to their grandmother’s house in the Bronx while we got through this little mishap. We had to shower and handle all hygiene at friends and families houses. Luckily, the nights weren’t so hot and we were able to sleep comfortably with the windows open. I was unable to work while the power was down but Ariel was out fishing the town for WIFI signal. It was a nightmare.

In COVID-19 news, my Ariel tested positive for COVID-19. After so many months of this pandemic and doing my absolute best to keep our family safe, corona hit home. I cried my eyes out with anxiety when I heard the news. Fear and worry took over me; worrying for my kids, for myself, and what would happen to Ariel as a result of the virus. We had him quarantined since we got the news and yesterday was his 14th day. I hated having to be distant and having to wear gloves and masks when I am around him as if he was some sort of infectious disease (although he was). I hated having to treat my husband that way, having to keep him away from us, the girls not being able to see or touch their dad, only being able to see through a window when he would come out on the deck to say hello to the girl through our family room window.

Back-to-school season is around the corner and it has been unique, to say the least. Our public school system has released their plan for back-to-school this September after having had changed the plans a few times already. The kids will officially be distance learning this September.

Although, I am sure school officials are working diligently to provide the safest environment for students. Ariel and I are working parents. Having our children home is challenging. We are at work until at least 4pm.

We already had our eyes on private schooling for the girls and this situation really made us do further research on schools in the area. We applied for a scholarship and she will be starting her new private school on September 8, 2020.

I was never much of a fan of Amelia’s district elementary school to begin with so when the plan was released to have the children in distance learning, I decided to seriously look into the private school. The school’s plan is to open full time for regular in-school learning. Since the number of students is much smaller, they are able to social distance. The children will be in one classroom the entire time with the exception of gym. Lunch will be eaten in the classrooms so parents will have to pack lunches and snacks.

I know private school is a little costly but I feel like it’s worth the investment. With everything going on this year, I completely understand the pubic schools’ challenge to have all the students full-time and to be able to social distance. However, despite their challenges, we have our own and, unfortunately, the private school seems like the best option for us right now.

Aylah is in Pre-K and although she is back in school now for the summer, I am not sure if we will keep her enrolled during the Fall once the rest of the school opens up to their students. If my employer approves me to continue to work from home, I will most likely keep her home.

2020 has presented us with different challenges, to say the least, but August was a tough one. We have managed to get through and we will continue to do so through prayer and the Holy Spirit. There is no need for us to be anxious or worried with everything that is going on; I am grateful that we are safe and we are healthy despite everything going on in the world around us.

Thank you for reading guys. I hope you are all having a great summer and ready to send your kiddo’s to school.
