Making Time as a Busy Mom with Time Blocking
You guys know how much of a planner I am.
I want to make the time for everything; from my relationships, to work, to clean, etc. As a mother, it’s never ending. There is just so much to do that without a sense of organization, I can easily find myself tired and overwhelmed. Once I complete one thing, there’s usually a list of at least 2-3 items waiting for me to get to.
I use to have reminders all over my phone, to-do lists and sticky notes all over the place. Nonetheless, I still felt out of balance and it is important for my mental state to feel balanced, to feel like I got things in order, to feel organized.
Since blogging, I have always used time batching as a time management tool. I would draft 3 blog posts in one sitting and once they were finalized, I would schedule them for publishing. This concept has worked very well for me when working on my social media and blogging content because I don’t always have all the time in the world to write content. There’s so many steps that go into published content that it is much easier for me to batch each step into one sitting.
However, when it comes to managing my personal life; our home, my kids, my day job, etc. I use the time blocking method. Both productivity strategies are great and could actually work well together. Incorporating these strategies has really changed my life. Time blocking is really just scheduling (or blocking out) a time in schedule for you to dedicate to a specific task or project. For instance, I wanted to get into my kids’ playroom and get rid of old toys and to organize what they already have. On my calendar, I blocked out a Sunday from 10AM (I am usually more awake and focused by 10am) through 1PM to get the project done. Once the time on the block is up, you are done, whether you have physically finished or not.
Even if you feel unmotivated, just start. Its like going to the gym, you will be happy that you did it once it’s over. Getting started will give you the motivate you need to finish.
I hope this helped you find ways to get more done. These strategies have helped me find the balance I need to move forward in doing all the things I have to do. I hope you find it just as helpful as I did.
